It's too late to start preparing the way you are describing. Me and my brother have been preparing pretty seriously for the last 3 years and we are still not completely self sufficient by any means. The problem we have found is that becoming self sufficient in itself is a full time job. It will take years and years to do if you already have a full time job at a company or somewhere else. Me and my brother both have full time jobs and again we are going on year 3.

@silvercelli The dollar right now is the world reserve currency. It won't be for long. China actually suggested that we start issuing Government bonds in Yuan! There is going to be a race for the exits in the dollar soon. You don't have to believe it, but that won't change it. American politicians would have to make some pretty drastic changes in their policy if they want to turn this around. I don't believe for a minute that they have the political will to do what it will take. My opinion.

@silvercelli Our nations problems have to be solved on the local level. People need to jump start their own local economies by buying local products. We have to have local energy independence or we will never have national energy independence. We have to solve local unemployment first. Counties and states need to take the lead, because our Federal gov is an absolute failure. The Reps and Dems in DC are little more than crime families milking America for all its worth. I'm on my second year of trying to grow crops. Birds, deer and rabbits decimated my crops last year. Its kind of a lesson learned because now I know meat is available and I need a fence. Also if I start raising chickens I'm afraid people might come steal them. How did our ancestors survive off the land????? My hat is off to them.

@silvercelli Indeed they do... so is there any reason our's won't? Are we smarter? Harder working? Lucky? Blessed by a higher power? The byzantines, mings, romans, incas, aztecs surely thought they would never fall. But they did. Nature has taught us that the key to survival is the ability to ADAPT. Is anyone in our nation thinking about radical adaptation to survive and prosper in the new world order?

@stevesmitty79 As far as logistics, storage units out in the country don't have gates for 24 hour access. A 10x20 runs about $50. Steel barrels about $10. A 40lb pack of flour at ALDIs runs about $10. This is while the current supply is on the shelf. Food is still inexpensive so go and buy a lot RIGHT NOW. It'll jump just like fresh vegetables did during the recent freeze and cost twice maybe three times real soon. Get stocked up at home and if you can't, get a storage unit with some barrels.
