This is a great move that I have been having a lot of success with. Not many people have seen it before and you can catch them by surprise. I have tapped many high level people with this grip, especially those extremely strong brown and black belts that dont want to have their grips broken.

This video shows the grip from the Closed Guard position and although you will have a level of success from Closed Guard this move is best used when set up from Closed Guard and you move into Half Guard. I start from Closed Guard because that is a great place to practice the grip. If you can tap someone from Closed Guard you will destroy their wrist when you do it from Half Guard...so be careful with your partner.

Try this out and comment, but please dont comment until you've tried it. I must agree it looks like BS but it is based off of an old Judo grip break.

  • I really like this move! The use of the gi I learned from my judo background (black belt) and I found that in self defense scenarios you can use your SHIRT THE SAME WAY AS A GI.I did it with my TANK TOP once, lol. The wristlock works really well if you add the kenpo hand pin dynamic with extensive wristlock training like in hapkido (which I hold rank in),and combine it with bjj and your sit up suggestion. This gives you many variants for the wristlock armlock sweep strikes and stops his strikes.

  • @ATACXGYM

I dont hold ranks in any of those styles but I do fully understand what you're talking about. I get pretty aggressive with the wrist lock depending on who I'm grappling against and I definitely control the elbow.

Thanks for the feedback on the techniques :D
