From towers to dishes to linear mirrors to troughs, concentrating solar power (CSP) technologies reflect and collect solar heat to generate electricity. A single CSP plant can generate enough power for about 90,000 homes. This video explains what CSP is, how it works, and how systems like parabolic troughs produce renewable power.

For more information on the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's CSP research, see the Solar Energy Technology Program's Concentrating Solar Power Web page at http://www1.eere.energy.gov/solar/csp....

Collectors are one time cost and they don't cost much more then the money spent on the fuel for a conventional power plant over its life time. There are already several gigawatt solar plants going up in Arizona. Would be better if there were more but it's a start..

That is really interesting I want to study this! The only thing problem I have with renewable energy is that 1 # its not cheap #2 not reliable. Maybe it would make more sense for us Canadians but the USA? California's pop is larger than CANADA!!!

Making renewable energy economically friendly would be a grand achievement for the country and environment? No? Although, I say nuclear power all the way, its clean (unlike coal), reliable, and much cheaper than renewable energy.

    Awesome vid!!!

This is a great video about solar power. I definitely researching more about solar energy overall and switching your home and living green! You'll save so much money in the long run. My family just bought solar panels from SILICON SOLAR and it's been really amazing.

The Department of Energy appears to be busy. Keep it up! What about the use of magnetic current?
