MV Saturn working the final two vehicle crossings from Gourock-Dunoon on the 29th June 2011, from the 30th June a passenger only service operated by Argyll Ferries will take over the service.

Includes a tribute to many of the vehicle ferries (apart from MV Coruisk and Pioneer) at the end of the video.

  • Very nice vid and a sad day indeed. Shame on the Western Ferries crew not acknowledging "Saturn's" horn blast. Is this the level of pettiness the residents of Gourock and Dunoon have got to put up with from them? Now we'll see what they are REALLY made of without the Calmac crew to push them in competition! Bad show really and they only really showed themselves up. But I won't let tyat take away from a very good video, good positioning and panning with all the usual sounds. Well done! Ken

  • @kenbrowne1947 It was Sound of Scarba that blasted at Saturn first, Saturn then replied with what seen in the video, the Scarba's blasts can be heard for the first second of the video, was too late to get it all. It was a very sad night and being on the new passenger only service the next Monday I was not impressed.

  • Her mournful horn says a lot and the rainbow. This is not the right decision , mark my words. When she was in midstream , the Western lot didn't even reply her signal. Sorrowful evening indeed.

  • @clydeferries Sound of Scarba and Saturn exchanged friendly blasts midstream on the last sailing, it was a sad day, all this mess was forseen in 1981 when the private company loving torys decided to limit Calmac's sailings, who are the people of Cowal going to go to, to get across the water, a boat every 20 minutes or a boat every hour?

  • i was on the breakwater fishing when mv saturn came to duon i nearly fell in when the horn went off lol great ship

  • Still think they should of kept the Jupiter for the last sailing and let Saturn do one last one to Rostheay.

  • Fantastic video. Very sad to see the last one leave that evening - I watched it leave myself. Very sad but very atmospheric with the sun starting to go down in the wet conditions, with the rainbow over Gourock just adding to it more. Was good to see plenty of vehicles on Saturn's deck for the last two runs to Gourock. MV SATURN JUNO JUPITER - WE WILL MISS YOU

  • Oh my! All good things must end, but I have many fond memories of the Calymacs.

  • Took my first trip on the new Arygll Flyer after some technical delays and was quite impressed by her power and speed bearing in mind the speed restrictions at some parts of the crossing. She was opened up mid channel and she is fast. Talking about being a highly technical vessel and her engines almost run by computers , you can bet your bottom dollar that if there are glitches in the computer software already , you can expect more breakdowns too.

  • Nice video. What a sad day. Was in Dunoon until the day before it finished so got a few trips in.

Will be back in Scotland in a couple of weeks, don't know if I can face going on the new ferry!
