The Baby is the only one of three baby handfed timnehs still here from the first clutch and, though he was clipped already, it was a very conservative clip and he's been flying a bit too well for my liking. So today I took off just a tiny bit more. It's good to take VERY little off at a time and see what kind of change it makes. If you take too much, greys tend to plummet like rocks. Not a good thing. So we opt for the very gradual removal and so far it's been working very well.

I think just the opposite is true. A handfed bird is the best way to ensure that you have a tame and loving bird. There can be a big difference in the way even handfed babies turn out, though, depending on how they are raised. If your new baby was handfed and is a sweet bird I don't think you should worry that it will suddenly not want anything to do with you. Enjoy your new baby! They are wonderful birds.

Hello Nita,
I have followed your raising of the babies closely as I have recently adopted a baby timneh myself. I have read in a few places that hand feeding is bad for creating a bond as the bird will begin to think that you are the parent and later not want anything to do with you. Is there any truth in this? Should I be worried. Also thank you for posting this video and the others as well. It is a great help for us :)
