I have been watching these videos to help me understand the motor aspects of wind power. So far its been very informative and I thank you. However in this video I noticed that there a four blades on the windmill at the beginning. Is it not best to always use an odd number of blades to reduce stress on the opposing side of the prop? I've haven't seen a fan or prop built with an even number in a long time.

hey muddy nice toy.. i enjoy watching your demo. just 1 suggestion. i think you can use blower so you can try your wind genset in the absence of expected wind. the step by step procedures are very clear. nice try. thanks for this idea. i think i am gonna try this at home. regards pare

muddy , i have to build a bigger battery bank all so i only have 3 m batteries , i think this is my problem because i have solar panels to and now 2 wind generators, so i need more m batteries .

@muddymuddymuddmann Thanks Muddy, i will try and make a charge controler, or buy one.
Good luck to you and you fine projects.

@muddymuddymuddmann im going to try using three. im making an adaptor plate so i can just bolt the plate to the motor and then three of the four blades to the adaptor.
im tempted to just run 4 blades and just have the thing solid mounted. i live at the base of a canyon so the wind only really blows one direction 95 percent of the time.

@unisailor QUE MUCHO PIROPO CONFORMA MI SWEEL DE CABEZA GRANDE. Je je.
Y SÍ LOS TELÉFONOS CELULARES SE APAGARÁ SI LLEGAS DEMASIADO ESTRECHA. NO HE EXPERIMENTADO CUALQUIER PÉRDIDA DE MEMORIA AL TELÉFONO AÚN. PERO CREO QUE TODAVÍA ES POSIBLE.
GRACIAS.

hey muddy, very nice project. I have made a fan like yours, and it has between 0 and 50 volts output DC depending on wind speed. I live in Belgium.
I have used a bridge rectifier with 2 capacitors 1000µF on them. So i have two questions.
1.Do i need the capacitors? maybe they act as a temporary storige and
2.Can i directly hook the changing Dc voltage to a Car battery? without a volt regulator 13.8V
thank you for a reply and good luck with your new project.

@crossmundos FOR THE CAPACITORS... I WOULD SAY YOU DONT NEED THEM, BUT IT DOESNT HURT TO USE THEM TO SMOOTH OUT THE RIPPLED DC CURRENT.
AND (2) DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY IS FINE. THE BATTERY WILL ACT AS A VOLTAGE REGULATOR. CHECK YOUR BATTERY AFTER A WHILE TO MAKE SURE IT DOESNT OVER CHARGE. WHEN THE BATTERY IS CHARGED FULLY DISCONNECT THE TURBINE WIRES AND SHORT THEM TO KEEP THE BLADES SPINNING SLOW.
A CHARGE CONTROLLER WILL DO THIS FOR YOU. IT USES A DUMP LOAD INSTEAD OF SHORTING.

Excellent tutorials. I am just wondering if you would catch more wind with larger blades. Also, is there anything that can be done to increase the output with slower winds?

@bethehammer WHEN YOU DOUBLE THE DIAMETER OF THE PROP, YOU GET 4 TIMES THE POWER, BUT SLOWER RPMS. SLOWER RPMS MEANS A LOWER VOLTAGE. BUT WHEN THE WIND DOUBLES, YOU GET 8 TIMES THE POWER. WHEN BOTH ARE DOUBLED, THE POWER FACTOR IS 32 TIMES. ALSO SPLITTING THE COILS CAN DOUBLE THE AMPS OUT AND HALF THE VOLTAGE.
