In response to the various questions, that's a young (and beardless) Ed Mann playing mallets. Both he and Ruth were absolute gods.

@Johhnycashmonkey how can somebody ignore that Zappa had in his band not one (Ruth), but two of the best percussionists ever??? this guy is the great Ed Mann, that probably recorded more albums with Zappa than Ruth. It's not the case to say who's better... they are both fantastic players!
