An intimate profile of artist, Ray Hughes, and the mounting of his environmental sculpture, "Curtain of Light". Hughes delves into his creative motivations, why he attempts to create beauty and how the process affects him. We see his outdoor piece being constructed and lifted above the stream in the woods at the entrance to the canyon on the mountain where he lives. As friends and family help him create and complete his vision, we are left with both lessons and questions about the nature of art and the mysteries of beauty. A family production produced and photographed by Robert Hughes and Derek Hughes. Directed and edited by Derek Hughes.
Ray was my world history teacher in high school. I graduated in 1980. No one has had a greater impact on my understanding of the Vietnam War than Ray. He was outspoken, informed, courageous, and impassioned.
I didn't realize it at the time, but looking back, he is one of the most memorable teachers I ever had.
Interestingly enough, I had his wife at Sandy as my 6th grade teacher. She was also great and memorable.
Both opened my eyes in significant ways. Both were top notch teachers.
