  • How NOT to drill out a stud! You have to drill SLOWLY with pressure or you dull the bit and ruin it. It might have drilled out a lot faster if you'd done it right. Plus you heat up the bolt which can harden it.

  • @RyumitsuHayabusa

Ha what a jackass...actually I should have had a drill speed of about 1400 rpms but thats not doable with a hand drill...also yes you can harden that stud if you quenched it but I didn't generate enough heat to even change the properties of the stud...

  • @unccpathfinder Jackass? Okay, well you're welcome for the advice even if you won't admit being wrong. 1400 RPM is too fast.. But hey, what do machinists and metallurgists know... If anyone else is reading and wants to drill out a bolt or stud, you really do want low speed (250-350 RPM) with some cutting oil unless you want to bugger you nice Ti or Co drill bit and the bolt.

  • @RyumitsuHayabusa

(Feed x 4)/ cutting tool diameter? Its drilling out a broken exhaust stud not nanometrology or rocket science...its making a hole big enough to insert a tool to remove a failed fastener...lh cobalt drill would have been ideal but I'm not really worried about tool life...but u do your thing and ill do mine...machinest spent an hour taking measurements to drill a hole...same hole I used a "transfer punch" and was done in 5 mins

  • God i hate "easy outs" They are def not easy at all. I fucking hate when i have to use mine. Glad you got it to work though.

  • @killswitchny

oh yes they suck esp if you break one off...lets just say I've got a good feeling of when one is about to break...

1/4 the cost of a dewalt and just as dependable...ill take 4 of them over a single dewalt...

  • NIN, in the back ground... Nice.... lol..

  • next time, use a cutting oil, preferably a CRC brand cutting oil to prevent hardening and dulling of the drill bit and run it in moderate speed

  • There is anaother way to do it if the broken fastner is exposed sticking up.Involves a mig welder and a nut.Weld the nut on and you can get it out easily removing it with a wrench or a ratchet with a socket on it.This metheod does work.

  • I'm in the process of doing this, I wish I had that much space... I have the same one broken. I don't want to move my A/C compressor it still has R12 and blows cold...

  • Nice work dude. under 2 minutes... in real time!

  • is it possible to drill a hole, then set the drill to reverse to pull out the stud? I've seen it done with damaged screw heads.
