Luis Mirón is Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology at Loyola University; he is also Director of the Loyola Institute for Quality and Equity in Education. Dr. Mirón received his doctorate in Education and Latin American Studies with an emphasis on the politics and sociology of education from Tulane University in 1986. He holds graduate certification in English as a second language from the University of California at Los Angeles and a masters degree in secondary education from Louisiana State University. Prior to his current posts at Loyola University, Dr. Mirón was dean of the college of education at Florida International University. He also held faculty appointments at the University of New Orleans, the University of California, Irvine, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Mirón has authored or co-authored several books including Resisting Discrimination: Affirmative Strategies for Principals and Teachers and Urban Schools: The New Social Spaces of Resistance.
