PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION!! And WATCH IN HD!!

Hey gang. This is a great song from the soundtrack of the awesome movie "That Thing You Do", and you can hear it as it plays over the end credits. I did this song earlier in the year so it's actually my first attempt at a One-man Band, and I figured, "Well, why not upload it anyways?"

You can listen to the original and compare it to mine here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P_S9ILrjEY

And yes, I am playing all those instruments that you see, however some better than others haha. There are a couple spots where I "punched in" to fix mistakes afterwards. My friend Calvin (not shown) is playing acoustic guitar.

If you like what you see, PLEASE pass this on by sharing with family and friends and POSTING THIS VIDEO TO YOUR FACEBOOK WALL (or by any other means)! I really do appreciate it, and after all this hard work the exposure really helps me out! And check out my other videos (they're all quite different) and feel free to leave comments and SUBSCRIBE!

TECHIE STUFF:

Audio recorded in Logic Pro via Presonus Firepod. Video filmed with Canon Powershot SD780 and edited with Final Cut Pro.

Drums: Played at Humber College, Sennheiser MD421 on Kick, SM57 on Snare, Neumann TLM 103 on Right Overhead, Apex 435 on Left Overhead. EQ, Compressor, Multipressor, Reverb and Adaptive Limiter used.

Electric Guitars: Fury Bandit and Fury BBM (I'm a leftie) through Guitar Rig 3 plug-in in Logic (that's right, no amp was used!) Added compression and reverb.

Acoustic Guitar: My buddies acoustic guitar, cant remember the brand. Mic'd with my TLM 103 and also DI from the output jack.

Bass: Fender Jazz Bass (right handed bass I'm playing upsidedown) via Line-In. Guitar Rig 3 used, as well as Reverb and Compression.

Vocals: Mic'd with TLM 103, added tape delay, sample delay, eq, reverbs, compression to lead vocals, and similar effects to the backgrounds.

*NO PITCH CORRECTION USED!*

Special thanks to Soren Nissen for the use of his bass, Calvin Frank for recording the acoustic guitar and Tristan Henderson for doing the final mix and helping with the drums!

  • Andrew - Your and performance video were both aswesome. You inspired me to do a video like yours, but of the other song:). I posted it as a video response to this (I think. I've not tried that before). Thanks for the inspiration!

  • @homebrewaudio Hey! Thanks for the kind words, it's flattering to think I may have inspired someone! I checked out your video, spot on! Your singing is especially good, really nailed it!

  • Andrew....I thought that the talent of the next generation was going to be wasted on shitty hip-hop and sampled auto-tuned crap. You have given me hope, young man. Kudos!

  • @tdelamont Thanks! I guess I should stop production on my new hip hop record with T-Pain tho...

  • hey mind sharing your recording equipment?

  • @iannyrockwell check the description :)

Second question: How you make the "Fading borders" effect? i use Vegas Pro and i can't find it there. i know you use Final Cut, but how this effect is called?

and third question - can you upload more cool funk/rock covers to jazz songs, like you and "Punching Abraham" did? because Nardis was AWESOME! i showed it to my jazz teacher and we played it in this version in my jazz class...

Great job with all of your videos - i can't wait till your next video! :D

  • Wow, Andrew, it's so AWESOME! you are the most talented musician in YouTube! Any video you post is totally amazing and i can't wait to the next one... i will ask again, but i think i know the answer - collaboration? Please?

Like... let's play Rhayader(by Camel) together! you on the guitar, drums and bass and i on the piano, and glockenspiel!

    Anyway, just few questions:

When you play the guitars/bass you record it straight to the computer? i see you have no headphones in these... **next comment**

  • @AndrewKesler Thanks Andrew. Right back atcha on the singing thing. I also do a lot of a Capella stuff like what you have on your site. I'm glad I found you on YT! - Ken

  • awesome dude

  • This truly is fantastic, as all your other one-man band things, are. Great movie, fantastic song, and great cover. This deserves more views.

  • Very nice kid!

  • @AndrewKesler Yes, stop right now!

  • DANG! Not bad, kid. Of all the proficiency I see in you with the various instruments, I'd say you're a decent singer, a good bassist, a very good guitarist, and an excellent drummer! You've got chops. As Del Paxton said in the movie, "You keep playin." and as I say, "You've got the chops." This definitely deserved a "Favorite" to my list. Thanks for the inspiration.
