Actually america demanded an unconditional surrender from japan. The reason they brought all of their troops back for one final defence was because they wanted to negotiate their surrender thats why the bombs were dropped. They'd alreay won its just that one option ment that america had more to gain.

Lol my bad on the year. The issue with not bombing them is that we would have lost way too many American soldiers. It just didn't make any since to Truman to lose an ass load of his for almost nothing. Still nuclear warfare is my #1 fear in this world today.
