@jclaret I think it was more than just Ray that made Roberto quit that night. Duran felt betrayed heading into that fight. He had already had a great career by the time he took on Ray, he beat Ray for the Title and he felt he should call the shots. Duran's own handlers sold him out to Ray when they signed to have the rematch shortly after the 1st fight.Duran didn't want to fight so soon,he lost his trust in his team and felt the fight game was disrespecting him.He quit to say "f u' to them all.
@pearcemark2 Agree with you to an extent, I wouldn't say Buster is a bum, he just didnt have the dedication, if he did he wouldve been one of the prominent Heavys in the 90s. Tyson also beat Ruddock, and some other decent heavyweights, but I agree with your conclusion he shouldn't be named in the top 20, 25 maybe even 50 fighters of all time, only outside boxing fans who dont know the sport and only know the intrigue that was Mike Tyson would state such nonsense.
@zacklyzun Boxing has 100+ years of history, so many incredible champions. Roberto Duran was 71-1 when he fought Sugar Ray for the first time. He ended up with 103 wins overall at the end of his career, which was 20 years after that fight. He moved up from lightweight all the way to super middleweight. Tyson fought a bunch of bums and old men, got KO'd by a bum in Buster Douglas, went to prison, had some shady shitty fights, got KO'd by Holyfield and Lewis. He might make the top 100, maybe.
iunno what sugar ray talking about. there are tons of characters in boxing
