  • The problem with you right wingers is that nothing is ever your fault, and you stubbornly keep on riding a dead horse, force feeding it carrots.

  • Mature Porn is her only calling.

  • Palin is only in politic for money

  • @jamesmaseobrown About organized crime, keep in mind that it thrives with the presence of government bans on goods (alcohol, pot, coke) or services (hookers, gambling).

Get rid of the laws since they not only do not keep people from engaging in the contraband, but create organized crime and lots of revenue for the state for courts, incarceration, fines, police pensions, ATF pay perks & pensions too.

I'll bet that the ATF is opposed to legalizing pot since it would defund their racket.

  • @jamesmaseobrown I also would like to say that I believe in business and enjoy patronizing local business establishments. I'm fiercely pro-small business and seek to utilize them when ever possible. When my children were growing up, I tried to instill in them to go the local small shops before you head over to the Home Depots or Stop and Shops. It's a system that works, but for them to prosper they need our support and a level playing field.

  • @dgl1962 And I have to thank you for not making this personal. It's so refreshing to talk about differences and commonalities without malice.

I get what you're saying about voluntary exchange. I also believe that we strive for an ideal system, but also have to knowledge that there will always be some level of bias due to corruption. It's that corruption which has to be addressed. One example is organized crime. Regulations are safeguards against abuses of power and influence over markets.

  • @jamesmaseobrown It's good to hear a progressive who's not anti-business.

We shouldn't forget that there really isn't anything called "capitalism", that dynamic is only the natural result of free people engaging in VOLUNTARY exchange with each other.

The Neanderthals did it, so do Americans and there's nothing wrong with it.

Problems tend to arise when the government gets involved and uses coercion by men with guns to tell us what to buy & who to buy it from.

    Corporations can't do that alone

  • @dgl1962 Amen to that. I can only generalize all the influential causes of this mess. I recognize the tendency within myself to want to look for an easy culprit. when in fact, it could be simply a broken system caused by uninhibited corruption. As a very left-wing liberal/progressive, I am not anti-capitalist or anti-business or communist or socialist. I'm anti-corruption and for fair play and accountability. Markets can and are being manipulated to detriment of society.

  • @jamesmaseobrown By the way, I just saw a good program on "medical tourism" to places like India & Thailand-don't laugh, they have excellent state of the art hospitals staffed with US trained MD's.

Anyway, they showed a retired American man who needed a 100K quintuple bypass, he got it done for 1/8th the cost in India (12K)!

Another woman needed a hip job, she hot it for 6K in Thailand.

I refuse to pay 800 per month on health insurance (like my neighbors & in laws do).

    I'll head to Thailand!

  • @jamesmaseobrown Even in socialized healthcare nations there are better standards available for those with money, so there goes the whole "equal access & care for all" dream.

I have to admit that the current system is ridiculous, nobody should have to get a 50K loan against their house in order to have a heart operation.

    Pure insanity!.

My guess is that much of this is from lawyers (John Edwards) who file suits & the additional tests done by the hospital to avoid lawsuits thereafter.

  • @jamesmaseobrown Correspondingly, popular involvement in the formation of public policy is considered a serious threat. It is not a step towards democracy; rather, it constitutes a "crisis of democracy" that must be overcome."

What you see happening today is an example of the above. What Obama did was under the guise of universal healthcare. He has taken credit for an accomplishment, but the powerful elite has gotten exactly what they wanted.
