The portion of this film when the boat is bottomed in the Straight of Gibraltar is, without a doubt, the most intense and suspenseful 15 minutes of film ever seen.

A masterpiece of film in every way, and the equal to films like The Seven Samurai and Lawrence of Arabia.

I think it is one of the best anti-war movies ever made.. It shows the futility of war. These men risk and struggle so much, and for what? In the end, we all meet the same end.
