St. Peterburg Chamber Choir
Choirmaster Nikolai Korniev
Recorded in the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, St. Petersburg, 1995

We, mystically representing the cherubim and singing the thrice-holy hymn to the life-creating Trinity, let us now lay aside every worldly care so that we may raise up the King of all, who is invisibly borne aloft by the angelic orders. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Чайковский, "9 духовно-музыкальных сочинений", Херувимская № 1
Санкт-Петербургский камерный хор
Дирижёр Николай Корнев
Запись в Петропавловском соборе, 1995

  • Do you have the recording of all nine pieces? If not, do you know where I might find it? These are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Sadly this rare opus by Tchaikovsky was never recorded as a complete set by one and the same choir. But I have found 8 pieces out of 9 (except No. 2) and will eventually post them all after I've finished Bortnyansky, which should happen until the end of June :)

  • Not to come across as stupid and/or ignorant, but what language is it?!?!?! The piece is really pretty, as is the choir, and I'm just curious as to what the language is...

  • @euphbassoon

It's Church Slavonic, used in Orthodox churches the way Latin is used in Roman Catholicism (but, having much in common with Old Slavonic, the predecessor of modern Slavic languages such as Russian and Bulgarian, for example, much more understandable without special education to Russian speakers in comparison with Latin for modern Europeans :)

  • Фамилия дирижёра - Корнев.

  • @antjetset

Да, верно. Но на буклете диска почему-то Korniev, по-русски на автомате написал :) исправлено.

  • Love this hymn, it is so moving. I have never heard it at Liturgy, but perhaps Holy Virgin Cath in San Francisco will do it some time. D. Alexandr D'Maddalena

  • This is the Cherubic hymn I was thinking of when I wrote my other note. This is the best of the Best by Tchaikovsky in my opinion. Thank you for showing the score. Alexandr D'Maddalena

  • merveilleux tout simplement

  • @VitaliyGR That's very unfortunate. Yes, please do. Thanks again.

  • @euphbassoon Chruch Slavonic - Russian Edition of Old Bulgarian Language :)
