Before and After audio comparison for the exhaust sound on this 750cc Virago (her name is Daisy).

Recording was done with a CAD condenser mic in an unenclosed environment at equal distances from each set of pipes. The audio levels still clipped for almost all of the portion with the custom pipes as the roar was too loud (but not TOO loud, it is still street legal in Australia). The dog panting comes from Candy, you can see her legs in one of the 'custom' photo shots... she too loves the roar of a good motorcycle exhaust.

A few little notes:

Fuel Consumption from the 14.5L tank:
* Before = approx. 140km
* After = approx. 200km
This analysis comes down to about 80% highway riding (no real difference between riding above or below 100kph), 20% urban. Generally each gear rides at around the 4000 rpm mark on the tachometer for this type of fuel economy with no desperate take-off's from traffic lights.

Weight:
* Before = I dunno... alot more
* After = Huge difference, so much more nimble by comparison... for a cruiser

Power:
* Before = Meh, a definite pleasure to ride but not orgasmic
* After = In terms of physics, the boost is so inconsequential it isn't really noticeable aside from the combined benefits of the reduced weight load... but the psychological satisfaction from the sound... :-)

Bike Condition:
No, it's not in the prettiest visual condition and could certainly do with a polish and so on, but this is not a trophy bike. It is ridden almost daily, regularly in the wet. She runs nice and smooth and that's what matters most.

For you mathematic heathens:
100kph pretty much equals 60mph

  • @RavFromUK The model sold here in Australia follows the specs for the US model, aside from the obvious metric speedo

  • was that a UK model? the peashooters on the exhaust I mean? custom sound much better!!

  • @capazzo22 might be a regional thing with the stock pipes

  • I have a 94 xv750 but my stock pipes don't look anything like yours. Wonder why... Mine sounds a little better than your stock sound, but the custom pipes on yours look good and sound good!
