A very old floor in Stoke Bardolf, Nottinghamshire which had been covered over with screed of differing strengths and mixtures, some relatively easy to remove; others not. The whole process was very labour intensive as it wasn't possible to grind the screed off without damaging the tiles beneath.

As the floor is in a Victorian cottage the Victorian quarry tiles have been laid on a lime substrate without any damp proofing. Taking this into account, we used a highly breathable matt finish on the tiles, which would both protect from staining and at the same time allow the floor to breath effectively.
Our first task was to remove the shellac varnish from the Victorian floor tiles with our Eco-friendly stripper containing natural plant extracts. Then came the thorough deep cleaning of the floor.

The finish applied to the floor is a hard wearing breathable satin gloss exclusive to Carr Restoration, which as you see really brings out the natural clay colours.

Now the floor not only looks superb but is also very easy to maintain.
