Basic Engine Building DVD - Chapter 13: Valve Train

The valve train is all of the engine parts, inside the cylinder head, that control the opening and closing of the valves. The camshaft, lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, and valve springs and the valves themselves, all make up the valve train in all motors.

In this section we show the proper way to disassemble and organize the entire system. Gives example of rocker shafts on some motors. A great accessory for this is Goodson tools VTO 80 valve train organizer tray, to keep all your parts together in the right order. Also covers the certain tools you need like a Craftsman pick set, and a lifter extractor tool.

Great shots of our marine engine and the sludge inside it before it went out to the machine shop!

  • hey way was the 350 block fill with all the yellow gunk?

  • @1surenolove4life3 that wasn't a Chevy 350 filled with the oily gunk, it was a Ford 351W that came out of a boat.

copy this to the end of the YouTube URL to watch the video explaining why:

    watch?v=pyjgzPN4yg0&

  • that engine is huge! whats it out of?

  • @markzilla6969 three engines are shown throughout this clip...

First is Dodge 318 V8 from a Dart

Second is a Chevy Small Block 350 from a Blazer

Third is a Ford 351 Windsor that was pulled from a boat.

All engines are 'small block' V8 blocks. You should see how much bigger some of the 'big blocks' get....

  • and you obviously dont understand english vary well.

read my comment again, obviously myself have never seen a mechanic wear gloves.

i was just asking what was up with that. if you could read you would probaly try to answer my inquire rather than be a smart ass.

  • @stephmc111 Latex and Nitrile gloves are becoming a standard for all auto technicians.

If you regularly work on engines and your skin is in constant contact with greases, oils and solvents, the chemicals will absorb into your body through your skin.

Clean-up for lunchtime or your lady-friend are much easier with gloves...

  • If you have a knock it it could be the piston on the rod if it's got high miles but in most cases the crank can be polished or in worse caes ground.

  • @windywindy ;p

  • @stephmc111 Your English is horrible you dumb cunt. Mechanics don't wear gloves? Are you fucking retarded, go ahead and go home and wack off to your gimp dick after you work all day and touch that dick

  • @moraisinimputavel and it drinks 4 times more !

  • amazing... thanks for sharing the video...=)

  • Leave the rocker arms tight. The springs of the valves will help dis-lodge the head from the block :)
