Welcome to a new set of videos at a completely new range! For me at any rate. This is a series of range vids from Elm Fork Public Range, which is located towards downtown Dallas, off of I-35 and Walnut Hill Road. This place is kinda unusual in that it specializes in clays/skeet shooting, competition level stuff. They have a 100 yard set of lanes, but they only allow scoped rifles on the damn range there (?), which we all know is easy for someone with a bare minimum of training. They have 50 yard lanes being built, but those weren't ready today. So that left us on the tactical range, which is only a mere 30 yards deep.

But, on a positive note, they allow FMJ and combination of rifles and pistols on thhose lanes. Plus, my good friend (whom I also turned to the Dark Side of the Force) said they sometimes allowed rapid fire...not so today, but I'm not surprised on a Saturday. Also, they called cease fires fairly often, and typically the wait time was very short given the fact that it's only 30 yards deep. And best of all, we could stand up and shoot, which is the only proper way to shoot an AK with a 30 round clip.

So, we started out with our respective WASR-10s. You've seen mine several times, but my friend's is basically the same, minus the stain/varnish job and the cleaning rod..and the slanted muzzle break, so the gun would ride a little more than I was used to.

All in all, we have a really good time shooting like mad-cats at full body targets
down range. I think my pattern was better, and my aimed 20 shoots were grouped pretty well too...but who could miss at these ranges?

Well, apparently quite a few people did...one thing I have learned is that if you don't force folks to aim-small/miss-small, they won't try to...so they'll shoot the backstop, the railroad ties, etc. I have to admit, most folks coming to the tact-bay frankly don't know how to shoot that well, most times. Good news is that we quickly got to drop a few clips of the Romanian Tokarev TTC not long after we were done burning up some Silver Bear ammo + some cheap-ass UCW stuff...which I have to agree with most folks, it's pretty shitty ammo. The primer caps are too recessed, so misfires were occurring on almost every 3rd shot for my friend. Mine weren't as in bad shape.

And after my friend had to jet, we FINALLY got to shoot my beauty: the Springfield 1903A3, with some Federal 30-06 rounds. So enjoy this vid, more to come soon!

  • Hey, just moved to Dallas. Only been to Targetmasters and for a first time shooter renting guns with ammo, damn its expensive. How is it compared to Elm Fork?

  • @dizkoteck Well, never buy ammo at the range, that's a guaranteed way to burn thru your pocket book. They are fair about pricing, only $15 if I recall correctly, that's only about $2.50 to $5 more than Quail Creek or Garland Public Shooting Range. Yeah, this hobby isnt' very cheap

  • Does this range allow FMJ ammo., i have looked on there website and they dont have anything listed about specific ammo types.

  • @Fellopian22 The DO allow FMJ on their tactical lanes, which only go out about 25 yards. There you can shoot anything other than tracers! I've seen tact-shotguns out there firing slugs and buckshot, alongside FMJ ammo for WASR-10s, + pistols (hollow point and FMJ), etc. But if you go to the 100 yard and (soon to open) 50 yard lanes, they only allow SP...AND I found out, you gotta have a scope for the 100 yard lanes, which I think is BOOOOOOGUS...I don't need no steeken scope at 100 yards.

  • Wasr's are a decent value for the money.

Check out my review for the mak 90 Ak. Those are some of the best. I liked my wasr because it was lighter than the mak 90 and cheaper.

  • Shot my friend's WASR 10/63 at Garland. I didn't care as much for it as my SKS that I was also firing for the first time. Still a good gun at about $430.

  • @tradbowyer1975 I plan to test that Springfield at 100 yards tomorrow...it's gonna be like driving a Cadillac on the range bro!

  • its on my list of guns i want thanks
