"Mother and Daughter", circa 1945. Shot on 16mm film. This film does not contain audio.
"Mother and Daughter" shows the sweet dynamic between Barbara Mettler and her mother as they enjoy each others' company on a beautiful day.
Barbara Mettler, dancer, dance educator, author, and film and video producer, developed her own style of modern dance, which emphasized improvisation. Her core principles were beauty, freedom, and democracy. Dance was conceived as a fundamental human activity, of which all people are capable, as opposed to an elite, choreographed, performance art.
The Barbara Mettler Archive came to Hampshire College in 2003. For more information: mettlerdance.hampshire.edu
