And why forcing employees to pay dues to a union hurts employees and the economy.

  • where are all the good jobs in north carolina ? striped and gone and we had no labor unions - its up to you -we were tolled if union gets in here boys your jobs are gone - god bless the labor movement !

  • The reason that you have to pay union dues is that unions are evil, coercive thugs.

  • If you had an option to accept a lower wage & not join the union that would be more fair than "right to work". But that's not how it happens. In a "right to work state" if you don't join the union, you still get the higher wage that the union won in past & future contracts.

If you want to teach at a community college, go do it. Paying union dues in order to get higher wages, better benifits & more bargining power is worth it. You haven't given a good reason for not becoming a CC profesor.

  • That is total BULLSHIT! I should have the right to choose to work for a lower wage and not pay Union dues! I don't want a Union boss bargaining for my wages, I want to be in control of negotiations, and not be forced to pay a fee for becoming an employee of the state. The Union guys can do whatever they want......just don't force others to line their pockets with taxpayer money.

I can't believe that people support Union MONOPOLY on state jobs in California. I thought we were a free country?

  • The reason that you have to pay union dues is that the union has ALREADY gotten a higher wage for the entire work force, before you even join the job. Tell me why you should join a union job, have a union given wage, but not join the union that gave you that wage?

Plus what if the company goes on strike, the union wins a higher wage, but you didn't join the union and didn't help the strike. You would still get the raise, that isn't fair at all.

  • You're an economic royalist.

  • If you want to have a Union business.......BUILD ONE! It is not right to FORCE people who want jobs to pay Union dues. For the longest time I wanted to become a community college professor, but in California it is ILLEGAL to be a teacher and not pay the Unions.

That is wrong. Plain and simple. People should be able to form Unions, but not force others to pay their dues.

  • Martin Luther King Jr. on the Right-To-Work issue-

"In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, such as right to work. It is a law to rob us of our civil rights and job rights....Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining by which unions have improved wages and working conditions of everyone...We demand this fraud be stopped."

—Speaking on right-to-work laws in 1961

  • Nice and biased. Good stuff!

  • why is this broadcast only filled with proponents of right to work.... i for one appreciate hearing both sides defending their positions regarding an issue
