This trailer for the May 2002 Spider-Man staring Tobey Maguire prominently featured the Twin Towers and was released only days before the September 11th attacks. Sony pulled the trailer two days after the the towers fell.
I was working at my theater when two days after 9/11 ... Sony request all trailers *teaser: Spider Man be removed. For the most part a lot people saw this trailer in summer 2001 it was placed on big movie releases at the time, such as Rush Hour 2, Mummy Returns, and Pearl Harbor. I remember have to 20 copies off film cut the trailer from. I do remember the first movie that had it 'A Knights Tale'.
I remember seeing this teaser only once in theaters shortly before 9/11 happened, then I never saw it again, and the towers were removed. I was 18 when I saw that trailer, I'm 28 now and thought I would never see it again. It actually brings a lot of emotions back to me just at how life was a few weeks before 9/11 and now after. I'm glad this is on here, it makes me smile :)
There was no way to reshoot the movie when this trailer was released. And they did not pull the trailer to disrespect the towers: movies are escapist, to some degree: reminding people of real-life death and suffering is not a good idea.
It was a pull they had to do but should not be forgotten how major these towers where. I still watch the older movies that show the towers and remember what once was.
I have mixed feelings about them pulling the trailer. It was a way to remember the towers as they were. There is nothing disrespectful about the towers in this.
