@peggydams Its actually one of the most traditional Jewish songs, on the highest moments of the year, at the very beginning of the Yom Kippur prayer. we basically, ask god to enable us (an all sinners) to pray and ask his merciful forgiveness. So of course this will be the highlight scene of Jazz Singer as well...

He has a beautiful voice and brings much emotion to this song.

@peggydams its actually about any promises that we made and did not keep this past year and any we will make and wont keep this year until next year should be forgoten. it actually has much more meening, though, because it is the first prayer on the day of atonement.

Gebis,
It's a midrash, like I said . . . a legend. Are most of you unaffiliated, nonreligious fanatics mean-spirited and judgmental?

I'm singing kol nidre for the the first time this year in my synagogue's choir. Being a Jew by choice, I wasn't raised with this music and so am trying to get a handle on it. This was a beautiful example.
