From Daily Press Article: Sam Jackson looks ahead after life as York High coach, athletic director

Sam Jackson has lived his life by a credo he cites often: "He who fails to plan, plans to fail." It has served him well during 40 years as a teacher in York County, 39 years of those at York High, where he served 38 years as track coach, 36 as cross country coach and 29 as athletic director.

...

"He's soft-spoken but has a solid agenda for everything he wants to accomplish."

Jackson is so respected as an athletic director that his assistants have become in demand. John Ashley landed the job as Bruton AD four years ago, and will return to York to succeed Jackson. Susan Wiker moved on from a job as Jackson's assistant to become Tabb AD.

"What Susan and I learned from Sam is how to work with and treat other coaches," Ashley said. "He taught us that coaches are just like the players you coach on your team.

"He's also one of the smartest men I've ever met, and he taught us about staying two seasons ahead with planning and organizing."
