Well, my WR-17 experience goes back 5-years. A 2-3' wave is the worst, especially in cross-chop. Over 3' on a wind-driven wave the boat essentially sails over the waves instead of slamming them, on Lake Erie. Five footers on Erie are the biggest I've been on, not a problem as I experienced them. It's actually the smaller waves and cross-chop that are a problem. My personal rule - minimum white-caps and think twice about going out, has more to do with wind speed than wave height.

Five-foot rollers, especially following rollers, are actually kinda fun in my experience.

Yeah, that WAS a good day. Interesting, too, that the reason it was solo is I couldn't find anyone else to go that day! If you're ever in the area (northern Ohio), let me know and maybe we can set up a dual sailing day. The Lake Erie Islands can be a fickle dude to deal with, wind, weather and waves-wise, but when it's good, it's REALLY GOOD!!! Thanks for the comment.
