From 1929: Richard Barthelmess introduces the "Meet My Sister" number. This includes Sally Blane, Loretta Young, Dolores Costello, Helene Costello, Viola Dana, Shirley Mason, Ada Mae Vaughn, Alberta Vaughn, Armida Vedrill, Lola Vedrill, Alice Day, Marcilene Day, Sally O'Neil, Molly O'Day, Marion Byron, Harriett (Lake) Byron (Ann Sothern) . All are real sisters except for Marion Byron and Ann Sothern.
FYI: Dolores Costello is Drew Barrymore's grandmother.

  • If Marion Byron and Harriett Byron weren't sisters, what's the relationship?

  • None, Just Hollywood fluff

  • Where is Dolores Costello?

  • She is with her sister Helene at the very beginning.

  • Two Buster Keaton leading ladies here: Sally O'Neil (Battling Butler) and Marion Byron (Steamboat Bill Jr.). Ann Sothern's real name was Harriet Lake, not Byron. At this time, Marion Byron was probably the better known of the two. Alberta Vaughan co-starred with John Wayne in one of his early cheapies. I don't know if she went to jail. I understand she went nuts & ended up in a mental institution.

  • @JudgeJulieLit It was Loretta Young's youngest sister Georgiana who married Ricardo Montalban. Sally married movie director Norman Foster.

  • @VTMCompany Sally Blane & Loretta Young (to me) look like twins, but they're not. Born in Salt Lake City (yet Catholic, not Mormon), Sally later married actor Ricardo Montalban.

  • dolores was so beautiful!

  • this is a Warners production, so what is Marceline Day doing here with her sister Alice Day? Marceline would've still been under contract to MGM am I not correct?

  • "Mr. Warner gave me 16 excellent reasons, every one of which is a good reason for doing almost anything"

    That's an amazing line!

  • Ah, the arrival af the microphone... I love the way they seemed to be "pointing guns" at the heads at all of these girls' heads! The talkies had arrived, and the silent film stars had to comply. If you look closely at Loretta Young, you can see that she is genuinely stressed out! What fun!... What courage!

  • blane & young certainly look alike, don't they?

  • A private print of this survives in COLOR.

  • Richard Barthelmess, what lovely, lovely man.
