Really sounds nice. Don't bother yourself wondering why.

It does sound like The Cars. Steve was trying to go "new wavey" on the album. I was in fourth grade (I am dating myself) and got the album as a Christmas gift. It's the opening track.

bhusar1, you are an absolute STAR! THANK YOU so much for telling me that....I'd never have guessed it was the Steve Miller Band - for some reason I always had it in my head that it might be someone like The Cars or similar - but anyway, thank you again for solving a 25-year-old mystery! :) (Also it turns out that my memory of how the song went wasn't that far off the mark either).

One thing that I have certainly seen is that a lot of people tend to equate the Rhodes more with funk and jazz, and the Wurli with rock. Personally I think either can be good for both in certain contexts. 'Horses for courses' and all that...
