2nd Annual
Helen Keller
5K Walk/Run
Richards High School
Oak Lawn, Illinois
Sunday May 22, 2011
Well let's take a look at another great event taking place in the community. On Sunday May 22, 2011, Lions Club District 1A was putting on it's second annual Helen Keller 5K Walk & Run at Richards High School in Oak Lawn. All proceeds from this event go towards the funding of the District Open Area's account, serving people where there is not a local Lions Club. The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, that provides services for the Veterans Administration, infant to adult vision or hearing impaired plus provides job placement and training. And the Lions of Illinois Foundation that provides 14 programs that serve the blind, deaf, youth and handicapped. One of the most popular is sending hearing or vision impaired children to summer camp.
There was a registration fee that participants paid, and then collected pledges earing money for both the organizations I just mentioned and their own organization if they had one.
Activities included Beep Baseball, Wellness Check, and Obstacle Course, a free hearing check from the hearing bus and a vendor area. Refreshments were provided, as well as Lion Ray Jachim cooking Hot Dogs out of a Prairie Cement Mixer.
