Secretary of Education Arne Duncan appears on "Face the Nation" to address criticism from the right regarding President Obama's in-school speech to schoolchildren.

"All the drama, all the hoopla, at the end of the day, if the President motivates... one student who's thinking about dropping out to stay in school and take their education seriously., it's all worth it."

He also noted that it would be "just silly" for parents to keep their kids home from school on the day Obama would be speaking to schoolchildren. "It's just gonna be an 18-minute speech," he said. "That just doesn't make any sense."

"I don't spend any time on the silly stuff," Duncan said. "I try and stay laser-like focused on really dramatically improving what's going on for our nation's children."

  • It's funny how people come on youtube to critique someones punctuation and spelling as though they are so perfect that they have never done it. If you want an editing job, go apply at the New York Times. Then you can "spellcheck" all you want. It's youtube people. Get a grip on reality. This is just an entertainment site. You need a life if you are spellchecking you tube comments .

  • It is so funny to watch the way the american system works.

    I am from denmark btw.

You are doing hate speech instead of understanding that america needs more people to be well educated. to succeed in the global economy.

Obama was right in his speak about kids should educate them selves.

  • No wonder the US is behind, they let people like "Dunce Duncan" who only has a bachelor degree and no teaching degree or experience to lead the Dept of Education. Another chicago/harvard crony of obama.

  • I Believe This Was A Video Clip Of CBS News' Face The Nation With Bob Schieffer's Exclusive Report On Duncan: Opposition Of Obama School Speech "Silly Stuff" On Sunday Morning, September 6, 2009.

  • Tests make kids who either can't take tests, or really need the extra help feel unwanted in the academia world so those students therefore don't see the value of being part of it.. lets do more emotional intelligence and less intelligence based on tested material! :)

  • @redbonegal you fail LOSER it was spelled YOUTUBE YOUTUBEEEEEEEEE!!!

  • @rasmusvoss Not all of us are at fault. You're hearing about a very vocal minority.

  • see how Health Ledger keeps fidgetting. Some poeple are just like that, now if stupid Toronto police didn't like him and were investigating him out of spite for complaining aobut them. They would say, see he is guilty of a crime that is why he's fidgeting so much. That's how Toronto Police abuses its power and plays demi-Gods and ruins people's life who try to expose its abuse of power. They lie, have no ethical hold framing innocent as terrorist n spy or killing someone to satisfy their egos

  • @ryanpeeler Good point. And the GOP wonders why minorities

don't want to join their party. It isn't the classical myth that blacks and hispancis

and poor people want handouts or cry for the nanny state.

Here it is you have the first black president whose image motivates

all children especially minority children to get their education to

better themselves instead of being dependent. All of this will back

fire on conservatives and the GOP in years to come.

  • By any means necessary, the conservative movement will do anything this dismiss Obama. If you were to say what I said, people will so oh stop being a liberal nut and stop drinking the koolaid. That is a cop out to suggest that all the time just because people don't always think like you. You know what voters, go ahead and put the Republicans back in control of the Congress and see that nothing changes or improves. You will see that there is no difference between the two parties
