Buck is the man... he's the one guy who when he decided to record a Christmas album, he wrote almost every song on it. Despite the fact that the album is Christmas themed, it features some of the best songs by Buck Owens & The Buckaroos when they were in their prime. Along with one or two novelty songs and an instrumental, the rest of the songs are about serious soul-shattering heartache at around Christmas time, which is great for a sap like myself. Add in Tom Brumley's amazing feathery touch on steel and Don Rich's bright, stout and twangy Telecaster and harmony vocals, and you have my favorite Christmas album.
I'm covering a number that was also done by Travis Tritt, and French Artists Paul Dwayne and Hert LeBlanc. All of them do excellent versions of the songs with excellent bands in traditional country fashion. They all influenced my version, particularly Hert's version.
I recorded mine at about 2 AM on Christmas Morning. I had to be quiet with the vocals as to not wake anyone, so I'm using my head voice, which is very difficult when the song is as high as it is. I worked for about an hour on the vocals, redoing them line by line until I got most of them to satisfactory pitch.
