A video I made after our fantastic stay on Lanzarote in summer 2011 to share the impressions of our holiday. The island itself is pretty nice with more attractions than you might think. If you plan to visit, I recommend to choose an appartment or finca combined with a rented car from airport. This will guarantee you an individual holiday far away from the mainstream tourism and enough flexibility to take a look at the numerous sights on the island. However, being situated in popular tourist areas like Puerto del Carmen (that´s where we had our place) or Playa Blanca has also advantages like nightlife or shopping opportunities (food as well as clothing etc.). Also you don´t have to drive far to the beach and can just walk to the sea quickly.

We recommend to visit at least the following sights, attractions:

Timanfaya national park - take a bus tour and/or camel ride through desert
Mirador del Rio - outstanding view over the north coast onto La Graciosa
El Golfo - a half-sunk caldera near the ocean
Salinas de Janubio - large systems for desalination
Jardin de Cactus
Jameos del Agua and Cuevas de los verdes next to it
La Geria
Castillo de Santa Barbara near Teguise
Caleta de Famara - a small town in the north, popular for surfing, kiting etc.
Tropical Park - with cute animals and talking parrots Papagaya beaches
a drive onto any mountain to get a view over the island

These towns are worth a visit, or at least a drive-through to catch some shots:

Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Teguise, Yaiza, San Bartolomé, Famara

Arrecife was not our favourite, the beach and some castles are quite ok but else nothing special. If you like to see a large ship wreck, drive to the industrial port of Arrecife and watch the coast to your right until you see it. All in all it was a perfect holiday for us. If you plan it right, depending on what you expect from your stay, you can have a great vacation at a fair price - with lots of beach, nightlife, good food, phenomenal views at every corner and a good number of sights to take a look at. The number of tourists is much lower than on Gran Canaria or Tenerife (we were there in July/August), relaxation and activities for families, cupples or groups is granted. Make it a beach holiday with cocktails or club at night or complete your stay with exploring the island by yourself over the days. The possibilities are just great.

Hope you have fun, Alex
