VK3VCM operating portable at Melton, 40km West of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. This is a QSO with DL5RBW from near Munich in Germany. My transceiver is a Kenwood TS590s running 100 watts into a Buddipole Deluxe at about 22 feet, mounted on the Buddipole guyed portable mast. Power is supplied from a Neuton Power 120Ah Sealed Lead Acid Deep Cycle battery. The Buddipole on this occasion was configured as a dipole resonant in the middle of the 40m band (7.150 MHz). On most occasions I simply use the antenna tuner built into the TS590s to compensate for the fact the antenna is setup for 40m, however if conditions are not good I can easily adjust the Buddipole to be resonant on the 20m band to ensure that more RF is emitted from the antenna and not wasted in the tuner. 73, Craig VK3VCM

  • Looks like fun but isn't the Kenwood a bit heavy to be lugging around?

I have a Buddistick and Yaesu FT-857 that pack into a small bag for portable ops.

Thinking seriously of adding the TF-590s to the shack. 73
