It's billed as the most ambitious private development in the world a place where the rich can indulge their every fantasy. But what's the human cost of Dubai's artificial islands?

Off the coast of Dubai, a new world is literally rising from the sea. Developers are creating 300 islands in the shape of a world, each country to be sold to a private investor. "Dubai's the place right now," raves developer Robert Lee. But the foreign workers building the islands enjoy few rights. Banned from joining unions, they labour in miserable conditions.

Those middle eastern oil merchants are running out of oil in 50 years and they don't have alternatives to generate money. Look at their country, it's a desert, period. They can't produce/manufacture anything. So this is their only hope, get a lump of debt, develop a glamorous vacation destination, attract many rich-assed tourists/investors and generate make money. Simple.

The fact the world recently found out that Dubai is bankrupt and has over 60 billion dollars of debt drew it a lot of negative attention, so I'm guessing they're trying to cover that up with an aggressive PR campaign and this channel happens to be on their payroll.
