The Salem Academy (Salem, Oregon) Choir participated today at the Linfield College Choral Festival (2-24-2010). This song is titled "City Called Heaven" and is one of six performed by Salem Academy at the festival. The choir director is Janet Carruthers. Accompanied by Brenda DeVyldere who did an awesome job!

  • Let me share a fact; ''heaven is one with our spirit , how else can we be seated with Christ in the heavens ? Eph 2:6 , and today we are build a dwelling place of God in Spirit Eph 2:22 The house of God 2 Tim 3:15 of which Christ became the head of the corner 1 Petr 2:7 He who believes will not hasten away Isai 28:16 One can see this and experience this by being born again and be in the dimension of the Zoé Life.

But this is great singing indeed . applause !

  • Thank you for your comment! I think the sentiment in the song reflects Paul's own wishes in Philippians 1:23: "I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far...." Paul of course, in a spiritual and positional sense was already in Christ, but not completely. He looked forward to that day when he would be finally and fully with the Lord in body and spirit.

  • Thanks for your reply . Paul was already in Christ and no longer living , it was Christ living in him. Gal 2:20 This was after Christ was revealed in him, which formed the center of the high gospel. It is this Christ in Him being the law of life freeing him from the law of sin and dead in Ron 8:2 and Who became the hope of glory , and he hope it to be for the believers for which he was in travail Gal 4:19

For Paul be with Christ is a matter of degree , not place.

  • Good thoughts. To desire to "depart" (die physically), as Paul expressed, and finish the "race" (2 Timothy 4:7-8) on this earth, and to be with the Lord in heaven apart from suffering and tears (as the slaves who originally sang this song did) is a valid yearning among His children. It is a natural desire for us to want to go home! There is more "in store." Indeed those who have been born again have this assurance and hope. That's what this awesome song is about.

  • One of my favorite songs! Thanks for sharing!!!!
