In this impassioned talk, Dr. Usmani demos the Usmani-Kirk Model by plotting an imaginary suicide attack. While sharing his vision to fight terrorism in Pakistan, he astutely comments on the current state of affairs with a tongue-in-cheek manner.

About the speaker

Dr. Usmani is a Fulbright Scholar. He holds a PhD and MS in Computer Science from the Florida Institute of Technology. As part of his Master's thesis, he has developed a simulation of supermarkets to observe and quantify the effects of herd behavior on impulse shopping by customers. His PhD work focuses on simulation and modeling of blast waves in open and confined spaces. His work has been mentioned in Wall Street Journal, AOL News, Wired Magazine, NPR, MIT's Technology Review, Florida Today, and The Economist. He has authored dozens of research papers, articles, and three books. His research strengths include real-world simulation, programming human emergent behaviors, and modeling of catastrophic events. About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani,Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

  • guys look at the other side of this software... y he got govt grants? he got the attention of defence researchers... they can modify this...and use enemy territory maps and find out best and weak areas to attack...

dont know if it will work or not but seems he caught their attention..

  • @pathangpathang :: how can this help , serious medical conditions wont allow to use this software ! has some one done testing of this system ? Do not know how buggy or defective this software is !!! Also emergency need direct action and attention by doctors , not by using this never tested software , this is nothing but an stupid idea , and this person through government grants wants to make money...

  • looks like he is after BIG MONEY from Government Grants, if he is sincere with country then he should do it withouth 2nd thought. He is very cunning , which is quite obvious from his speech.

  • in the end of his speech he is talking about some gov person and this stupid usmani knows when that person will die ?

  • @mehwishhussain28 : what kind of research you will do ? what is and what should be important for a doctor in the time of emergency , is to save human life .. Do you think , using this stupid Usmani idea , doctor's would be doing forensic analysis , so that they may know how much patients have what injuries blah blah blah ... his idea is stupid even for forensic analysis ... humn life should be saved first without losing a sinlge second.

    Thank you,

  • yee kiss koo chotyaa bunaa rahaa hay, he was my student during BCS , i know how he got the position in BCS , he was good in studies but not that much good. most of awards he has mentioned in his resume are fake. Sindh province is far far bad and full of corruption and people such as this guy know how to get on the ladder. And I have no doubt whatever he has developed would provide more negative impact then positive one.

  • We must have watched the same video but from two different perspectives. What perspective are you coming from?

  • @CriminalMedicine Nice one.. and what category do you fall in?... can we kill you too?

  • bumm-ber!!! (epic!)
