This is my HF200 rig. I pretty much followed the instructions by Flenos here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hMcrFaFEp8

After putting together the sony wide angle lens, thread ring and UV filter, I found that I still got a little bit of flare. To combat this, I simply cut down the rubber hood and attached it. This solved the problem perfectly.

I didn't want to buy a Rode VideoMic for a number of reasons.I will be mainly using the camera for shooting Music Videos so the audio will dubbed on & as I run a recording studio I already had a few mics which I could use.

I decided to try the RV4 because it's a great size for the camera rig, it's fairly light & battery powered. It's definitely an improvement over the onboard mic anyhow. Just need to get a wind cover for it now.

I didn't have a Mic Shoe clip so I drilled a hole through the bracket and attached the standard RV4 clip with a threaded attachment from a drum mic.

Sorry for the low quality of this clip, I had to use my old battered Sony Handycam.

Equipment List:

Canon Vixia HF200
Sony VCL-HA07A 37mm 0.7x Wide Angle Adapter
Visico 72mm 72 MC UV MCUV Multi Coated Filter
SIMA SLB-M Camera Mounting Bracket
72mm Rubber Lens Hood
Red 5 Audio RV4

  • What is the music track playing? Trying so hard finding this one, nothing. So good, please tell me what is it! P.S. I've got a HF200 too, though I'm looking to buy the Canon DM-100, you think it's better than the RODE VideoMic? Music videos I'll be shooting too. Thanks!

  • @saigon82 The music is "Marc Hamill - 1985 ( You Got Something ) Feat. Storm" will be released in Jan 2011 on Roasted Records. You can stream on the website shown at the end of the video. I'm not sure about the canon mic, I've never used one, but the Rode is a pretty good mic

  • where did you get that hand from because im in need of one urgently, actually also the fisheye and lens hood . Also some footage from this would be nice

  • @lewrah08 I got it all on ebay.

  • There is some footage on the roastedstudios channel - check out the "Storm The Front" video for some fisheye shots

  • I love it when someone comments and says the camera and rig in THIS video are shit....then you go to THEIR crappy videos where they shot with their camera set on auto focus and it won't even stay in focus. In broad ass day light. LOL

Moral of the story is: People with crappy cameras shouldn't try dogging on good cameras like the Canon HF200.

  • @674266 yes buy it can be powered from battery

  • @kotg0903 yes it fits without adapter

  • doesn't that mic need fantom power to work tho ?

  • So that sony lens will scew onto a camera with 37mm threads, with out an adaptor?

  • @RoastedStudios yea it has threads

  • @TheKidWhoCriedComedy I'm not sure. If it has a threaded lens and a standard tripod screw point I would say yes.

  • @mrwashur1991 :-D

  • this song is gayer than the so called video.
