  • does this guitar have the soundblock running through the middle of the body or is it a full hollowbody?

  • full hollowbody.

  • Why did changing the pots and pickups suck? Just cause you had to replace the parts, or cause it cost money?

  • Why not use the best electronic parts in a high quality

guitar in the first place? The EPI-175, although different

from a Gibson, is top quality, except I would do away with

the nut. I did not replace that yet, since I admit that is

relatively minor. I don't think the repairman was thrilled with

the amount of work it took to replace the electronics. I

would have spent more money to begin with to get

    upgraded electronics.

  • Stickers? I hope not!

Could not justify over 3 grand for a plywood Gibson

    guitar (i.e. 175). For a working guitarist,

it would be worth it to own the real thing. A 175 is

a copy, but of course, a really good copy.

I thought the neck was maple

on the EPI 175, but now the specs say mahogany? With the finish, I can't tell what wood

it is. Maybe they changed the neck wood at some point? I read recently that the craftsmanship is WAY

more important than the specific woods used, up to

    a point...

  • The EPI has higher quality than SOME GIbsons, but a good Gibson destroys an EPI. It SUCKED having to replace the pups and pots on the EPI 175. Why can't they use THE BEST parts to begin with? (i.e. PRS SE models) I used to own SGs, 335s (never a Les Paul or 175) and I have yet to find a modern Gibson SG under 2 grand as good as those $200 70s GIbsons SGs I owned. I have not found a 335 equal to the red one I had in the 70s (cost me $250, then). I got a cheap PRS Soap 2 as a SG replacement.
  • @marcojp94 I think your buddy misheard Gibson's CS. All Epi's I know of use either legit flamed maple for their tops, or on their cheaper models throw a flamed maple veneer (not a sticker at all) over the top to give it better flaming. The only time I've ever heard of guitars using "sticker" wood grain is on Fender's Foto Flame guitars, which used film to mimic wood grain. Sounds like your buddy either heard wrong from Gibson or the CS is just jealous that Epi's are spanking them in quality.

  • yeah, put it on the neck pickup and turn the tone nob down
