During the Golden Age of Freethought in 19th century America, there lived an agnostic called Colonel Robert Green Ingersoll, who could draw in crowds that paid $1 or more (a substantial sum in those days) to hear him ridicule religious belief (a "new atheist") and point out the dangers of religion butting into politics and people's personal lives.

All but forgotten by history in a country that has been keen on sweeping figures such as Robert Ingersoll, Thomas Paine and Ernestine Rose under the rug of American consciousness, these people are now making a comeback due to the upsurge in humanism, secularism and atheism in the US.
Here's my attempt at putting Ingersoll and his ideas back into the public sphere. This man already said all there is to say about creationist humbug and the dangers of mixing religion and politics.

  • 1882 sound recording????

  • It is wonderful to hear the voice of this man whose works I discovered at age 14 , after hearing that the church prophet had declared in 1899, "Ingersoll is dead, but his works live on to curse the world." I wondered, Who could this man be?, and sought him out, discovering then that his eloquence was of love, understanding, and hope, and that the church had lied. 50 years later I have written by own book- I hope, to continue his enlightenment. It is THE BRIGHTNESS, by SM NONA. Thank you!
