With sing-a-long lyrics! B-side to the 1976 smash hit single "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". Lyrics by Bernie Taupin, music by Elton John & Davey Johnstone. The words are an unflattering tribute to Cher. Note how Elton sings "I Got You, Babe" at the end, as the song fades! Reportedly, Elton apologized once to Cher for recording the song, and she hadn't even heard of it! Musically it's quite interesting because it's a guitar song, not played on piano at all. Davey Johnstone played the acoustic guitar beautifully on this, and listen to the great drums and percussion by Roger Pope and Ray Cooper!

  • I have this single. Used to play it a lot. Don't like side A.

  • Yes, the B-side is so superior! Always been one of my favorite EJ songs!

  • Yes, a lot of B-sides fron 1976-1986 haven't been issued on CD -- enough for a "Rare Masters, Vol. 2"! This is one of them.

Kiki and David Nutter (her husband) get composer credits on the single. Why?

  • Good question! I had forgotten that Kiki & Nutter are listed as writers. Was he her husband???? David Nutter was a photographer with EJ. He did the Blue Moves album and the book of Elton's 1976 tour, the book called "It's a Little Bit Funny". I would love to know what role he (the photographer) and Kiki had in writing this song! Anyone have a clue?

  • I too have been trying to find this song on CD or download with no luck. Finally I wrote to Elton's webmaster and asked about the song and why it was not available. They answered and said they didn't know the reason either!

  • Yes, this recording is from the original vinyl B-side of the 7-inch single "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". Converted to an mp3 file by playing it into the computer. Others have included it on "bootleg" compilations, but I'm pretty sure it's always just recordings from the original vinyl. I don't think it's ever been remastered and officially released on CD. Shame! It's a great song!

  • Release this on iTunes already!!!!

  • Talons are tested.... not Talents.

  • I love both Cher and Elton. The lyrics are bitter but pretty much spot on regarding Cher's TV career at the time. It's a shame this wonderful song is stuck in limbo.

  • Possibly, Elton didn't include it if he was sorry to Cher for recording it?

  • I've been looking for this song for 25 years!! It was played allthe time in Boston by Charles Laquedera. Just found it yesterday and my husband finally thinks I'm sane! Elton's songs have the most incredible i incredible imagery. I wonder who this song is about?

  • Thank you RonnieFriend for bringing back yet another hidden gem in the Elton John catalogue. Why oh why wasn't this song on the remastered edition of Blue Moves? There was plenty of room on that couple of very short CDs...
