Chapter 2
You were always my baby

They all sat in the silence again. Then something happened, something came over Joe and he became a different person.

Joe: Your dads a freak!

Joe stood and walked over to the small child and towered over him. Codie stood and tried to pull Joe back but he wouldnt move. Josh and Nick sat still not saying a word. They still had trouble dealing with raised voices.

Joe: You want to know who your dad is?!

Jamie: I I dont know *tears starting to fill his eyes*

Joe: Hes a rapist! He raped Nick and Josh and our mom! Thats how she had you!

Nick and Josh both shared a sting when Joe announced the horror they faced to an almost complete stranger.

Codie: Joe! Shut up! Whats wrong with you!?

Jamie began to sob. He didnt like what he was hearing and he knew now he should have never come. Kevin just walked down the stairs sleepy Frankie in his arms.

Kevin: Whats going on?

Joe: Oh Kevin, meet Jamie our brother. Yeah, hes Davids, I mean look at him, you can tell.

Kevin was stunned and didnt know how to respond. Jamie was the first to respond by running to the door but before he could run out Mr. Jonas stopped him.

Jamie: let go of me!

Mrs. Jonas: Whats going on?

Jamie: Im a freak! Joe told me about my dad. My real dad.

Jamie fell to the floor crying Mr. Jonas went to talk to the kids while he left Denise with Jamie. She folded his small body into her and held him closely gently rocking him.

Mrs. Jonas: Listen to me, you are not him. You are not David, its not your fault.

She put his face in her hands and looked him in the eyes.

Mrs. Jonas: You are my baby, always. I was stupid for giving you away. I love you and Joe is just upset, this family has been threw so much these last months.

Jamie: Im sorry.

Mrs. Jonas: Dont be. Your what we needed, the empty place in my heart is filling up again.

Jamie wiped at his eyes and then shifted to move out of his new found mothers grip. Denise just squeezed him tighter. Then someone cleared their throat behind them. They both looked up with tear filled eyes. Joe stood above them remorse covered his face.

Joe: Im sorry. I was out of line and I hope that if you can youll stay. Id like to get to know my other little brother.

Jamie: *smiles* Id like that

Joe knelt down and hugged his mother and little brother. He had listened to what his mother had said. It wasnt Jamies fault.

Mr. Jonas: Honey we need to call social services

Jamie pulled away from the hug and scooted to the door.

Jamie: Im sorry but Im not going back!

Mrs. Jonas: Honey we talked about it and we want you to stay

Jamie: Forever?

Mrs. Jonas: Or until college.

They all laughed and Jamie threw himself back into his mothers arms.
