Linksys Wireless Router How To Install Setup Password on Mac Password Protect Network Name

This is how to setup your password protection and network name on a Linksys wireless router on a mac. Since the installation disc is not compatible on a mac, you can use your web browser address bar to go to your ip address and set it up that way. I found Firefox worked better with me than Safari for this process.

1. Download and Open Firefox
2. Enter 192.168.1.1 in web browser
-Name "Admin"
-Password "Admin"
3. Click the wireless tab
4. Click Basic wireless settings
-Enter desired name
5. Click Save settings
6. Click wireless security
7. Click drop down menu and select "WPA Personal"
8. Enter personal password
9. Save settings
10. Quit out of everything
11. Unhook Ethernet
12. Turn on Airport
13. Find Network Name
14. Enter Password

It sure does. All the steps will be the same. :) Just use Internet explorer or Google Chrome or whatever internet browser you use. If you are having trouble on one browser use a different one. That should do it ;)

It doesnt let me type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar in safari so I tried it in firefox didnt let me open up firefox what do I do?

not sure i have not encountered that problem before. repeat all the steps again. make sure wifi (airport) is off and your are connected via ethernet cable.

THANK YOU! Tonight was the last straw. I didn't know how to do this. You saved me a lot of trouble. You can do this without an ethernet cable. It'll just knock you off your original wireless name when you change it. However, you'll be able to find it under your new name. Then repeat the process of going to the website and set your password. It'll knock you off the wireless again, but go back to your wireless symbol at the top of the screen and find your name. It'll ask for your new password.

i have a error... says: LAN ip cant be the same as WAN IP... my ipadress and sub mask is the same a the router default... how can i change this so it doesnt come this error again.?? thanks!!
