This simulation of the new High Plains Raceway has a speedometer added to the display so that you can see typical speeds around the track.

The car used in this lap is a Mazda MX5 Cup Car ... chosen because it is similar to the Spec Miatas which so many racers enjoy.

Also, if you race a different type of car, chances are you know how much faster or slower you are than the Miatas, so you can gauge your own car's speed accordingly.

Enjoy!

  • @wizard0ne0 Nice! Sounds like your roadster is in much better shape than mine! They do require a roll bar for convertibles, I think. Thankfully, I picked one up for cheap, but unfortunately, my hardtop won't fit over it, and my soft top's front bow is ruined, so I haven't installed it yet. It would have been a couple years ago when I was at Greeley, so I am sure it was you. I think you and I are the youngest members in the club, lol!

  • @tomakze yeah, my dad actually has a 1600 with a 2000 diff in it, and it bogs down badly off the line. My car is bored .030 over, K&N filter, and z-therapy carbs, so it is peppy but not truly a speed demon. It has the 4speed in it, and I don't like driving it on the highway(3700rpm at 60) And I am pretty sure that HPR would require me to install a roll bar in my car, have something besides the windshield to protect me. And did go to Greeley a couple years back.

  • @wizard0ne0 I think I saw you at the car show a while back in Greeley! I have a lame video of my car on my page if you want to check it out. I plan on overcoming the gearing issue with a new motor and tranny... a KA24. You could also swap in the 2000 differential, because it is a 3.70 instead of a 3.90, although it won't make a huge difference. I have been on HPR as a passenger, and to be honest, the main straight isn't long enough for our little cars to top out anyway. Not with a stock motor.

  • @tomakze I have a burgundy 66 1600, and unfortunately it is leaking coolant out the head gasket, so I can't really drive it until I get it fixed, and yes I am part of WYCROC, I am Gordan's son. I would really like to get a overdrive module installed.

  • @wizard0ne0 What year is your roadster? I am assuming it is a 1600? I am building a '68 1600, and I hope to have it on this track next year. Are you a member of WYCROC?

  • I can't wait to go this summer hope to meet a bunch of new people as well!

  • this doesn't bode well for racing my datsun roadster, it has about the same handling as the miata but my gearing is not right at all......it hits about 80-85mph at redline in top gear......

  • thanks so much for adding this - it is really helpful to get a feel for speeds!
