When she describes "closing the ribcage" she is doing a pelvic tilt- not a kegel/pelvic floor exercise. The pelvic tilt is a good core exercise for strengthening your back; but she conflates the two and it's confusing.
(I'm a NASM certified personal trainer, and also hold a pre/post-natal certificate)

Your pc muscles don't have to be engaged to do that move. In fact some might even have a hard time using the pc muscle at the same time.

she is utterly wrong. she is talking about t.a. its IMPOSSIBLE to feel your pelvic floor unless you do internal examination. It has been found that TA co-contracts with pelvic floor and so a TA contraction COULD be an indicator of pelvic floor function, but she was stating that what she was feeling was pelvic floor. incorrect.
