2/16/08 With her auburn and white markings Taffy is a typical Turkish Van. This young stray, estimated at four months of age has been treated for ear mites, a common cat problem., but she is ready for a home. This particular breed loves to play with water or even swim in it! Swimming cats need to have a waterproof coat and the Turkish Vans have a semi-longhaired coat which molts during the summer until they have a shorthaired appearance. The tail is always brush-like. They have a hearty appetite and continue to grow for 3 to 5 years into a large cat. They have a gentle disposition and are lively, intelligent and inquisitive with an ability to adjust easily to most situations. They may be somewhat apprehensive with strangers but are very affectionate towards their owners, with whom they bond very closely - being almost doglike in their devotion. Besides the auburn ears, head and tail, the breed standard allows for auburn color patches on up to 20 percent of the rest of the cat.

  • not a van

  • @AlphaLuxury Why not?

  • I think Turkish Angora cats has long coat..Turkish van cats not necesserily has long coats but very different than rest of the cat breeds..Their fur is water proof allwoing them to dry after they swim in the lake..

  • Thank you for the reality check. You're right. The hair is thick and a little bit stiff, but the Turkish van is not a long-haired cat by any stretch.

  • is it true andrew lloyd webber has 4 of these?

  • Not sure how many, but he certainly had a famous t.v. cat named Otto who got into mischief. Of course Andrew could afford to have real people dress up like cats and slink around on a Broadway stage, if he wanted to.

  • Nope... tail is too skinny and fur is not thick like a van. Really sweet cat though... so cute!

  • @steve0701 why not lol. Because it isn't. The markings are in the wrong places and the fur is wrong. And yes I just checked 3 cat breed books and they are listed as longhairs in all 3. Specifically semi-longhair. It's likely to be nothing more than a domestic shorthair.

  • @steve0701 he means not a van, it is Salon.

  • this is not a Turkish Van, this is an ordinary orange and white cat. The colors are identical but the area of the markings and the length of the coat are not

  • omg my turkish van is named taffy too!

  • Turkish van cats 1 eye is blue other is green

  • It is not a van because van cats are kurdish cats ;)

  • I'm sorry but that is not a Van.

    Still VERY cool cat though.
