Visit the Burke Museum on the UW campus--wonderful native American collection plus a lot of Asian artifacts and even some bones. You can bring kids for a short run-through, but it's best to enjoy the small museum intimately and take your time looking carefully at everything. There's a cafe on the bottom level and a small gift area for shopping.
While you're on campus, you can also visit the Henry Museum and the herb garden and walk two blocks west to University Avenue for books and food.

What about.... Kurt Cobain's Memorial House. ;) I've already been invited to a 3 or 4 day trip to Seattle......I heard prices are lower than in Vancouver so it's worth buying clothes, for instance..... But first I need my USA tourist visa. So I hope I'll visit Seattle sometime this fall. We'll see.
