@Randomkaoz GMR heads and glass platters, also the lubrications on the platters were causing teh drives to die left and right, with head crashes. google ibm deskstar head crash and you will see one with all 5 platters scraped clean. I myself had like 5 deskstars, 60 and 75GXP, and 1 40GV (same one but 5400 rpm). all die to the click of death. if i ever get another one of these drives it will be to kill. they are total junk. btw check my channel i destroy hdds on there..

@c0rrupts3ct0r555 i did think those models were so loud and shitty. I had a dell dimension 8100 and it had the IBM deskstar 20GB, you know back when i didn't know i could have built the same system for half the price lol.
But the hard drive was really good, super quite. What the hell happen over the years??

@dq476 60 or 75GXP... hard to tell which.. both had major issues with failing.
-
@Randomkaoz nope, Deskstar, 75GXP or 60GXP, i notice the seek pattern, and the head ramps, and platter spindle design. they are just as bad as crapstor. google 'deathstar' if u will.

imma take a guess and say that the one making all that noise is a maxtor lol.

You need to defrag!

Is the boot drive an IBM? it has loading ramps for the head ;-)
I can't remember if it was an IBM drive...

what software are you using for RAID? or is it being done by the bios?

Isn't light bad for the HDD after weeks ?
o0JohnnyReb0o 2 years ago
Just opening the HDD is bad, because within seconds the plates will be polluted with hundreds of dust particles, making the drives doomed!!

nice but woulnt it shorten the lifespan of the hard discs?(dust, static electricity etc)
Kamidium94 2 years ago
Yep, but this is done with old harddrives, and only a demostration.
The video also mentions that is a easy way to loose data.
