Hawaii's only queen and last monarch, Lili'uokalani, was forced to abdicate her throne in the 1890s. The story goes that she originally composed the song "Aloha 'Oe (Farewell To Thee)" in the 1870s as a love song, and the song - in one variation or another of the tune - was performed by Hawaiian musicians and bands well before 1898, but she published the song as a farewell to her subjects in 1898 as the Hawai'ian monarchy was officially ended and the islands became annexed as a US territory.
Aloha 'Oe (Farewell To Thee)
(words and music by Queen Lili'uokalani 1877, 1898)
Haaheo ka ua i na pali
Ke nihi ae la i ka nahele.
E hahai ana i ka liko,
Pua ahihi lehua o uka.
Aloha oe, aloha oe,
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo.
One fond embrace a hoi ae au,
Until we meet again.
Farewell to thee, farewell to thee,
Thou charming one who dwells among the bowers.
One fond embrace before I now depart,
Until we meet again.
Genie (Wilde-Notes Music) sings Aloha 'Oe for a happy hour at Avamere of Richmond Beach in Seattle, WA. You may hear people in the audience singing along. The alto harmony is also by Genie (overdubbed).

Thank you so much. Actually, both voices are mine - thanks to the magic of MacBook and iTunes with "voiceover" capabilities. LOL
This song does lend itself to beautiful harmonies,
