Today I am honored to be visiting Wichita Children's Home [http://wch.org]. I recorded this powerful interview with Karen Countryman-Roswurm, Therapist/Coordinator of Anti-Sexual Exploitation Service, who is considered an expert on this topic.

Human trafficking and sexual exploitation of youth is a very real crisis in America, yet most all of the funding to fight human trafficking goes to organizations that deal with international trafficking.

This interview may start off a little slow but please know there is lots of great information near the end. It is worth the time to watch the whole interview.

Here is a link to another powerful interview on the subject "Homeless Youth Labor and Sex Trafficking" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVbDX5OU20c

  • @RAMKING61 actually, research (jeffrey j. arnett) shows that the transition to adulthood lasts even up to age 30. sure, there's a big difference between a 13 y.o. vs a 20 y.o., but the fact of the matter is that many people are still easily manipulated, for any number of reasons. just think about the "grown" women who are manipulated into staying in relationships riddled with domestic violence. the same type of tactics are used in human trafficking: financial/emotionional/mental manipulation

  • YES! "Nothing about us without us!" These youth are the *experts* on their situations! Let's listen to their stories, needs, & recommendations.

  • @HappyHookerTV well first of all it is mostly children who fall victim to this kind of situation. Taking advantage of a street youth and business are very different, There is little care for the health of the child and no ways to protect them from the psychological, physical and emotional harm caused by this, They are unable to develop into self sufficient, healthy and capable adults. I'm not even sure you watched this video, you make me sick.

  • are uncomfortable with and try to project it on others. Seriously, what is the difference between a guy or a gal offering a someone a job for labor as opposed to sex? As long as their is CONSENT I see no issues. If anything, we need better social service programs that really give a fuck about the homeless.

  • Exploitation by definition means taking advanatge of another person's situation. If that's the case, then most businesses and corporations in America and in the world need to be shut down since they all involve a greater power (ie the corporations) "taking advantage of" people who need a job in order to make the money they need to survive. I think in our anti-sex culture, sexual based labour as opposed to other types of physical labor gets frowned on bc it deals with sex, an issue most people

  • Sorry, but there's a huge difference between those children under age 18 and those who are between ages 18-21. You can't lump them all together.
