Mike Jernigan, author of "Auburn Man: the Life and Times of George Petrie," discussed the legendary Auburn professor and founder of Auburn's football team in the Special Collections and Archives Department of Auburn University's Ralph Brown Draughon Library.
.
"Auburn Man" is the first full-length biography of the professor who for 55 years played a seminal role in shaping the university. In addition to introducing football to Auburn, Petrie strongly influenced on how the college valued both liberal arts and outreach. He was the first faculty member at AU to hold an earned Ph.D. and as author of The Auburn Creed gave words to the ideal of the AU man and woman.
